A weaver’s vest….

So I’ve been posting updates about my guided shopping trips on the Navajo Reservation and the Southwest for a couple of months.  I hope you, my readers, are considering taking one of my guided shopping trips next year.  Remember this is a shopping trip and NOT a buying trip.  Shopping never hurt anyone just ask Kathy and Natalie from Denver.

They both ended up buying vintage jewelry pieces at the Hubbell Trading Post in Ganado, AZ.  Not only are they taking a piece of the jewelry making legacy home with them back to Denver, they are taking the experience of shopping with me and learning about Native art.  I’d like to take you on a shopping tour of the Navajo Reservation and see what treasures await us.

The weaver’s vest I found and purchased is a sort of vintage style vest (it had an owner) with a sampler of various geometric Navajo rug designs done in a cool color (blues, greens, turquoise) with neutral (dark oatmeal/brown) colors.  And get this….there are weaving tools and wool cards woven in the vest so these weaving tools appear on the wearer’s back!  How wonderful is this?

Please contact me with comments or questions.

    hey Morris,

Natalie and I had a blast shopping at Hubbell with you! Natalie loves her vintage Rainbow Man ring, and my vintage Fred Harvey pin is just beautiful – that pin was quite a find! Thanks again for the fun – and the hike down into Canyon de Chelley was awesome!! Kathy
